I believe you are right about the rack numbers. In the second picture, the wood appears to be somewhat above the level of the metal, which is a good sign that, taken in conjunction with the clear stock markings, suggests that the stock has not been refinished. The 'AL' is a stock inspector's mark, and my book does list it as one of the possible marks, but the author either does not know or at least does not indicate who or what it stands for. service rifles, is the firing proof mark. Porter, who was master armorer from 1879 to 1894. The SWP in the cartouche stands for Samuel W. The serial number agrees with the stock cartouche that the rifle was made in 1892.
